Wellness - U p d a t e
"Health," "prevention," "natural alternatives," along with "wellness," are today's buzzwords–the
attention-grabbers tens of millions of Americans are interested in! The baby boomers (people
born between 1946 and 1964) are increasingly aware of their mortality: Your friend has just had a
heart attack or was diagnosed with cancer. You're looking at graying hairs and sagging skin. Your
parents are at the doctor’s office regularly, taking lots of prescriptions but can’t remember when
to take them! You are very interested in staying young.
Those of you in your 20s and 30s have had health
messages emblazoned into your being since you were
children. You are very well read on the subject, but don’t
necessarily pay heed to the warnings. Today’s public is
full of well-informed consumers who are no longer
satisfied with a visit to the doctor that ends with a
prescription, a pat on the head and “see you next year!”
To complicate matters, the wellness trend is not much
beyond skin deep for most. As a nation, we are fatter
and less fit than 20 years ago! We are open to taking
Ginkgo to help our memory, but still smoke cigarettes!
The annual Center for Disease Control and
Prevention report indicates that Type II
Diabetes has risen 70 percent since 1990!
This is almost entirely due to the increase
in obesity.
Because our bodies are not nutritionally satisfied, we
are eating 20 percent more as a nation than in 1960!
Couple that with a 20 percent drop in activity level and
the percentage of overweight individuals in the United
States alone has risen from 32 percent in 1964 to 54
percent in 1999! And USA Today reported recently that
freshman college students used to gain on average
about 15 pounds. Now, they are apt to gain 25 pounds.
Let’s explore true wellness.
Three keys to true wellness:
- Nutritional insurance and weight control
- Exercise and fitness
- Stress management and the mind-body connection
Nutritional insurance and weight
control: The first steps to true
wellness.
Just as you would invest in a healthcare policy
or car insurance to protect yourself from an
accident, you need to invest in nutritional
insurance to safeguard your health and wellbeing.
What is nutritional insurance? It simply
means putting a top priority on the nutrition
you feed your body. Your good health
depends on good nutrition. With that in mind,
you should take your nutritional insurance as
seriously as you would your medical and
automobile insurance. Most people, however,
pay more attention–and more money–to
protect what’s on the outside as opposed to the inside
of their own bodies.
We need this foundation of nutritional
insurance because we don't eat well.
Our meals are rushed and much of our foods are high
calorie, yet low in nutrients. Research continues to
validate the importance of antioxidant supplementation
for cancer and heart-disease prevention, anti-aging, etc.
Who, after all, eats five to seven daily servings of fruits
and vegetables as recommended by the American Cancer Society? With Herbalife’s antioxidant products, including Schizandra Plus, RoseOx™, Cardio ToconOx™, Ocular Defense Formula and Extreme C, it’s
easy to ensure optimum antioxidant intake.
Omega-3 fatty acid supplementation, found in our Herbalifeline®,
has been touted for its positive effects on
circulatory health and fetal brain development. Ginkgo
Biloba is an herb that may improve circulation and has
been well-studied in the area of memory improvement.
Herbalife’s Ultimate Ginkgo has phosphatidyl serine as well! Lutein, found in our Ocular Defense Formula, can
help support the health of your eyes.
Phytoestrogens are a hot area of
research because of their health benefits.
Fifty percent of women in perimenopause are seeking relief
from hot flashes, mood swings and menstrual irregularity.
Many are turning to “natural” alternatives and are finding
benefits by adding soy and hormone-balancing herbs to
their diets. Herbalife’s Woman’s Choice, Woman’s Advantage with DHEA™ and Nature’s Balance Cream
contain some of these nutrients and herbs.
Herbalife has been an industry leader in
the field of weight control for 20 years.
We are establishing ourselves in the forefront of the
“nutrition movement” and none too soon!
Our “foundation products,” which offer Cellular Nutrition®,
are balanced and complete formulations to
ensure optimum digestion and absorption–the keys to
good health, as well as weight control. If we help people
understand the importance of nutrition and provide
products that are easy to incorporate into their daily
lives, we can make a difference! Optimum nutrition is the
key to weight control and good health.
