 - Cellular Protection: Antioxidants are nutrients -

Antioxidants are nutrients

Antioxidants are nutrients that play a vital role in cellular health. Cells are vulnerable to a process called oxidation. Antioxidants are fighter nutrients in the oxidative process that find and "quench" free radicals before they can begin their damaging reaction.Antioxidants are naturally occurring compounds that have the ability to neutralize unstable "free-radical" oxygen molecules to help protect your body from cell damage. Unchecked free radicals have been associated with dozens of ailments, including cancer, lung injury and improper functioning of the nervous and immune systems. Antioxidant nutrients include vitamins C and E, beta-Carotene, the mineral selenium, proanthocyanidin (or OPC's from grape seed extract) and pycnogenol.

Vitamins

These are organic, essential nutrients required in small amounts by the body to perform specific functions that promote growth, reproduction or the maintenance of health and life. Vitamins do not yield energy when they are digested, such as proteins, fats and carbohydrates. They assist the enzymes that release energy from these foods. There are two types: The water-soluble vitamins are the B-vitamins and Vitamin C. The fat soluble vitamins are vitamins A, D, E, and K.

  • Vitamin C (Ascorbic acid)
This water-soluble vitamin is involved in collagen synthesis and the formation of scar tissue. Vitamin C also provides the matrix for bone growth and aids in amino acid metabolism. It functions as an antioxidant in immune resistance and helps in the absorption of iron. The natural herbal antioxidants in Extreme C work together with the Vitamin C to help neutralize the "free radicals" that bombard our bodies every day.
  • Vitamin E (Alpha tocopherol, tocotrienol)
Functions as an antioxidant in the body; stabilizes cell membranes; regulates oxidative reactions and protects polyunsaturated fatty acids and vitamin A from free radical damage. Vitamin E occurs in two forms, D and L, of which the D form is more active. d-alpha tocopherol is the most biologically active vitamin E compound. Different tocopherols vary in their vitamin E activity; to reconcile them, recommended intakes are expressed in tocopherol equivalents. (TE).* One TE equals the amount of vitamin E activity in 1 milligram of d-alpha-tocopherol.* Synthetic vitamin E is a 96% to 102% combination of the D or DL forms of alpha-tocopherol, alpha-tocopheryl acid succinate or alpha-tocopheryl acetate. Herbalifeline, Cardio ToconOx™ and RoseOx™ provides vitamin E, a key oil-soluble vitamin that possesses antioxidant qualities.*
  • Beta-Carotene
A pigment found in many dark, green, leafy and yellow vegetables and fruit. It is a non-toxic precursor to vitamin A in humans. It is known to have biological activity as an antioxidant and is one of the best known phytonutrients. Unlike Vitamin A, beta -Carotene is not toxic in large doses. beta-Carotene is a precursor to Vitamin A, which is essential for normal vision. beta-Carotene helps protect cells from the action of free radicals and is converted to Vitamin A in the body. Formula 2 - Multivitamin - Mineral & Herbal Tablets contains antioxidant factors Beta Carotene, Vitamin C, Vitamin E and Selenium, as well as Chromium GTF, an essential mineral that helps keep your body healthy and fit.

Minerals

Minerals are inorganic (non-carbon containing) micronutrients, 16 of which are essential nutrients and must be supplied by the diet. Minerals are divided into two groups: Major minerals, which are essential and are found in the body in amounts larger than 5 grams. Trace minerals, also essential, and are found in the body in amounts less than 5 grams.Major Minerals: calcium, chloride, magnesium, phosphorus, potassium, sodium and sulfurTrace Minerals: chromium, copper, flouride, iodine, iron, manganese, molybdenum, selenium and zinc. New and improved Formula 3-Cell Activator® is specifically designed to supply the essential nutrients your cells need to optimize energy production.*

  • Selenium
An essential mineral that works with Vitamin E to protect body compounds from oxidation.
  • Zinc
Zinc is a trace mineral and an important part of many enzymes. Zinc supports the work of numerous proteins in the body, assists in immune function and growth and development. It is also important to healthy reproductive functioning.

Herbs

  • Echinacea
Known to many as the "purple coneflower", echinacea resembles the daisy and can be traced back hundreds of years to Native Americans. It is popular for its ability to support natural resistance. Now you can experience the many benefits of this natural wonder with Herbalife’s Echinacea+, formulated with 125mg of premier Echinacea. Echinacea+ also includes naturally healthy Elderberry extract.*

The edible berries are rich in Vitamin C and get their dark color form their high anthocyanin and bioflavonoid content. They are primarly used to treat flu symptons and as an immunostimulant. Anthocyanins are special class of bioflavonoids, which offer powerfull antioxidant protection against cellular aging. The increased prpilarity of elderberry is based on research that suggests it is useful in treating cold and flu symptoms by increasing the body's immune system response.
  • Schizandra
Schizandra's antioxidant factors may also increase overall vitality and boost energy levels. Other potential health benefits of schizandra include healthier skin, improved digestion and better liver function.* Traditionally a part of Eastern medicine, the tiny red schizandra berries grow on vines and are native to northern China, Japan and Korea. The fruit itself has been described as having a sweet, sour, salty, hot and bitter taste. For this description, the Chinese name for schizandra is "we-wei-zi", meaning "five-taste fruit".
