Prominent researchers have published a study that recognizes the benefits of vitamins and recommends all adults take a multivitamin daily. The authors reviewed more than 30 years of articles to determine the correlation of vitamins and their effect on chronic diseases. Evidence indicated that not getting enough vitamins can lead to an increased risk of chronic diseases such as cardiovascular disease, cancer and osteoporosis. There is also evidence that vitamin E may prove useful in the prevention of heart disease when taken over long periods of time; vitamin D and calcium can provide protection against fractures; and folic acid helps prevent neural-tube defects in newborns.
